The time I wish I had roommates

Last evening I arrived back in Tucson after 10 fantastic days in California. I happened to leave one thing behind though. My keys. I didn’t realize it until I had the shuttle drop me off in front of my car and I spent a few minutes digging around without finding gold. This was a huge problem for a myriad of reasons. I did have a spare key to my car but it of course was inside the apartment…the apartment that is part of a complex that for some ridiculous reason has this insane policy of not being able to assist you with lockouts after hours. So I had to call a locksmith. And then I had to catch a taxi. A very expensive taxi mind you and all the while I’m thinking that I will also need to take a very expensive taxi back to the airport as well. Boo to not living somewhere where you have tons of friends you can call at a moments notice to help you out in a bind. So…I arrive at my apartment expecting the locksmith to arrive any minute because that’s what the dude told me. But 40 minutes later, after sitting on the ground and freezing my butt off, I get a call saying that he had done another job first and was now on his way. If I cussed, this is where I would insert those expletives. So after an hour the guy finally arrives and he’s a little creepy and not very trustworthy looking…I mean I would have felt a little better if he at least had a nametag or something. So I’m not too hyped about the fact that he is breaking into my apartment and aware of the fact that I live alone and don’t have keys to my place but what’s a girl to do? Of course he overcharges me. Of course. I’m sure he made up the amount on the spot and me being too tired and irritated to even argue at this point, I pay it—with a scowl on my face. At least I’m inside my apartment. Although then I realize that this apartment is totally void of all edible food so the hunger pains I’m feeling have to be subsided with a boiled egg. Yup. That was my dinner.

Anyway, now that I’ve vented I feel a whole lot better. I will try to post something a tad more uplifting and positive a little later. :)

Wow, well I bet someone won't be forgetting their keys ever again. That reminds me that I need to get a few copies of my key made.

No worries about the uplifting and possitive thing. Blogging is about sharing the "good and the bad". That's why I like reading your blogs. You keep it real in a funny, witty kinda way.

I know this is not suppose to be funny, but the way you told it made me laugh. The wheels in your mind are probably turning as to where you should "hide or leave" a copy of your key incase this should happen again.

Didn't it feel good to get that off of your chest? You seemed to handle the whole situation like a trooper. Even though you don't cuss, I think you were entitled to at least one "you dirty s.o.b." The locksmith deserved it and I'm sure our Lord would've given you a pass.:-)

As a person who has loss or misplaced his keys numberous times, I just wanted to give you a new ritual. It's called the "pocket pat". Everytime you go outside, even if it's just to grab the morning paper, pat your pocket. If you don't feel your keys, DO NOT LEAVE the place. :-)
Hey, it might save you some unneeded aggravation in the future.

Aww, Bri! I'm sorry. If I was there I would have gotten you... well, at least we know Mel would have :)

Why didn't you call me? Seriously. Why? You might not have TONS of Tucson friends, but you have at least two and you didn't even try to call them. How do you explain that? We would have picked you up from the airport in a second, waited with you for the locksmith and probably even grabbed some Zinburger-or whatever was open. I don't care if it's 3am...in the future, call me. AND furthermore, did you really park your car at the airport for 10 days? Haven't I offered to take you to the airport ANYTIME? You have some explaining to do.......

Uh-oh Bri, sounds like you're in trouble...
I assumed you were leaving Cali right after Brit had the baby! I would've sent you home with dinner on Sunday... that's the soccer mom in me kicking in.

Anytime I travel more than 2 hours away from home i take two sets of car keys. Just a good habit I have started.

D_mn! What a terrible night you had. I believe that just about everyone can relate to the frustrations of being locked out of their car or home...who needs that!?

Glad you got it off your chest; now go and enjoy a couple of more eggs :-]

A roommate would've been perfect, but as soon as you got in the house you would've wished them gone...lol.

Isn't venting great?!

I have this problem too. Jackson locked me out of the house with him inside the other day and the FIRE DEPARTMENT had to let me in!!!I feel your pain girl. I like isolation and hate it at the same time!
