Inspiration

I absolutely love quotes. I try and write down and remember any prolific quote that I come across, even if they only seem prolific to me. At the Olympic Trials in 2004 I covered my room in quotes that I had stumbled on throughout the year that I thought would be inspiring. The maid probably thought I belonged in some sort of psych ward with all the randomness taped on the walls but I felt as if surrounding myself with positive thoughts and reminders would be helpful. Well it didn’t really help in 2004 but I figure there is no reason I shouldn’t surround myself with positive thoughts this time around as well. But then I was thinking…while little nuggets of wisdom and encouragement from random people are great, there is so much inspiration that many of you have given me this year with the bible verses and words of encouragement that you have shared with me. So I figured that this year I’ll cover my room with that as well.

So if any of you have shared a verse with me this year or have a great one you’d like to share now, please leave them in the comments. And if you don’t really do the whole bible verse thing, you can still leave the most motivating quote you can think of or just the moving words that come from your own heart. I just hope this can be a group effort so I can print them all out before I leave and make sure I’m all ready and fired up. All of you have been so incredibly supportive through all of my ups and downs this year and I really value the extra boost I get from the blog world. Thank you in advance!

Now Bri
I am the quote queen. lol
Here are a few to set the ball rolling.

Work on the inside shows on the outside. What lies ahead of us or behind us is of littler matter to what lies within us.

Honour your calling, trust you heart and success will come to you.

No ones journey is seamless or smooth.

You know I have no bible quotes or motivational quotes, but I do know YOU. You've come so far from that young girl who couldn't be spoken to after a race, even if you won, because you didn't meet your own personal goal. You have become this beautiful, inspirational, faith woman that only needs to look in the mirror. You are your own best motivation (and your own best Kathy Griffin!. God gave you this amazing gift and you are using that gift for more than just the Trials/Olympics...you are inspiring and motivating so many other people to reach for their own stars and capture their own dreams. Remember all the people that you've touched in this blog, hang up their pictures, hang up the pictures of that classroom full of children cheering you on. That said, I love you and I pray that your dream is a reality. Kick ass!!

"A race is a work of art that people can look at and be affected in as many ways they’re capable of understanding."

dont know from whom this quote is but basically win or lose its your work of out... make it meaningful for you and everything else will fall into place... dont let a gold or 6th place ribbon define your art... that's just like saying one painting is better than another... its all art and each person will get something different from that art.

GOOD LUCK!!!

Hello Brianna,

This was a quote I heard ad nauseum from my high school football coach, that, even til this day, I still try to follow.

"Good, Better, Best, never rest until your good is better than your best!"

It may not quite be Vince Lombardi, but it has always inspired me to strive for that elusive quality we call perfection.

Good luck at the Trials.

I coach high school track and I wrote a letter to my kids before their last meet this year. It is too long to put in this comment section, so I emailed it to you. I hope you can take something from it. All the best.

I just wanted to say that the letter Shannon sent me was amazing but at the top was a great quote and so I am posting it here just in case other athletes are stopping by and want a little inspiration as well. I figured it wouldn't hurt to share the love!

A friend of mine sent me a message the other day via email and it had this scripture in it! Hope it helps!! =)

"Whatever is true, whatever is honest, whatever is just,
whatever is pure, whatever is lovely, whatever is kind, if there is any virtue, if there is anything worthy of praise, think on these things" (Philippians 4:8)

Another scripture I like is one that an Alabama graduate and pro footballer has as his inspirational quote (Shaun Alexander...LOVE him!!) =)

"Delight yourself in the Lord and He will give you the desires of your heart." (Psalm 37:4)

Here's wishing you the best!! =)

"In order to succeed, your desire for success should be greater than your fear of failure." -Bill Cosby

I pray that this quote will help you out as much as it has helped me. The day I decided not to allow fear of failure or rejection to control my life was the day I started to succeed.

I have 2 quotes. They don't necessarily have anything to do with track & field but I heard them recently and they remind me hold onto who I am and not question what's in my heart.

"Instead of working at being a mediocre someone else, focus on doing what it takes to become your best you."
Oprah Winfrey

To me, this means that there will always be those who take it upon themselves to tell you where your talents would better be suited. But you know who you are and where your heart and spirit tells you you need to be. So listen to that, and be the best YOU that you can be. There are plenty people out there filling the position of the mediocre someone else!!

"There are good ideas and there are God ideas, and you know them both when you hear 'em."

Love you Bri!!

Ms. Glenn,
I must say, I admire your tenacity and willingness to “lay it out there”, because we’re reading about it.
I’m not usually much on quotes, but I think Ryan Hall’s comments might be of (emotional) use to you.

Here are a few Maya Angelou quotes:

"It is this belief in a power larger than myself and other than myself which allows me to venture into the unknown and even the unknowable."

" One isn't necessarily born with courage, but one is born with potential. Without courage, we cannot practice any other virtue with consistency."

"You may encounter many defeats, but you must not be defeated. In fact, it may be necessary to encounter the defeats, so you can know who you are, what you can rise from, how you can still come out of it."

For some reason, this quote reminds me of you:

Brilliant, Talented and Fabulous-

Our deepest fear is not that we are inadequate.
Our deepest fear is that we are powerful beyond measure.
It is our Light, not our darkness, that most frightens us.
We ask ourselves, who am I to be brilliant, gorgeous, talented
and fabulous?
Actually, who are you not to be?
You are a child of God. Your playing small doesn't serve the world.
There's nothing enlightened about shrinking so that other people
won't feel insecure around you.
We were born to make manifest the Glory of God that is within us.
It's not just in some of us; it's in everyone.
And as we let our own Light shine, we unconsciously give other
people permission to do the same.
As we are liberated from our own fear, our presence automatically
liberates others.

as an ARIZONA track alum...we had a little inspirational speech given at one regional pre-meet dinner and it became a t-shirt...

"Bring your A-Game"
For me this means a lot, as I have so much pride for where i come from, no matter where that might be! The U is where we all hail from currently so for me it means, remember all your hard and be "SET APART" you're not like everyone else...also in the spirit of the trials...the A-standard is the GOAL anyways...so please Brianna be mindful of who u are, because so many of us have looked up to you for sooo long...and Oregon is a place where track dreams come to fruition (I won some important races there too...not quite like your, but important nonetheless!!!!!)
