My Idol

When I was younger, I once had a solo in the Christmas musical at church. I’m pretty sure I made God cry. I was that bad. It is one thing I don’t have in common with one of my very best friends in the world. Melanie. She is blessed with the one thing that I am never—no matter how hard I try—going to be good at. Singing. Ever since we were younguns I have marveled at how beautiful her voice is. It is truly a gift.

Tonight, I tuned in to watch the phenomenon that is American Idol. I am at the point now where I would probably skip the first couple of weeks of having to watch all the poor, embarrassing souls getting their dreams crushed and stomped on while everybody secretly laughs at them behind their back. I mean, did you see Temptress…the singing football player?!?! Poor thing. They really need to be over that part already.

Luckily for me, Mel appeared about 15 minutes into the show, sandwiched right in between Yucca, the foreigner with the love for soul music, and the ”let my people go” deep-voiced James. There she was, beautiful as ever, with her nervous voice in full effect, smiling from ear to ear. She sang that Natasha Bedingfield song and the judges loved her. Well…Simon was “neither here nor there” but it doesn’t matter. She got her golden ticket to Hollywood and millions of Americans got to appreciate what I have adored for years. I was so proud. It’s an acknowledgement that you are one of the best singers in the country, but it’s also just freakin’ cool!!!

There I was watching the news this morning and, once again, they were going to show bits of those annoying American Idol auditions. I normally don't watch but...OK, I did. And there was, well, who I thought to be, MEL. I sent you an email, Bri, to see if another of your friends could possibly be on TV. Then I checked here and..... Now I have to watch Celebrity Apprentice AND American Idol. If Bianca and/or Jasmine decide to be on TV, could you ask them to do Dancing With The Stars. I actually like that show :) .

YAY for Melanie! You would've thought Marcus and I were fools the way we were going crazy when she made it to Hollywood. Charlie adn Sierra were very confused, and I think a little scared, by our reaction.

Don't lie Nicole, we weren't going crazy and Charlie and Sierra were already asleep in bed. We were watching intently though and I even felt a little nervous for her as she walked in the room. But luckily she did well enough to pass, and the best part is, I'm sure she can do much better. She pretty much had them won over with her beauty, sweetness and charm when she walked in the room anyway though.

And although I was not jumping up and down or screaming or ANYTHING LIKE THAT (NICOLE!), like those Americans that Simon is so amazed by ("It never ceases to amaze me how people in this country can actually be happy about someone they know doing well," Simon. (what, are you serious?)), I am VERY hopeful to see her on the next round do even better and continue on to the top 20. Go 'head Melanie.

Your friends seem to be all over reality t.v. I'll be sure to look out for Melanie and root her on as well.

I realized I forgot to add...Mel, you rock! Now everyone will get to hear that beautiful voice that I was blessed to enjoy at Brit's wedding. I'll vote for you!

This is awesome. I'm not an Idol fan (never watched one episode), but I'll check it out for the first time.

I did look her up on Youtube and I loved her. But I'm just curious - did anyone else think that Simon called her "Beverly" at the end???

okay - disregard my last post. I listened again and I was wrong; he called her Melanie. Funny though, I really thought the first time he called her Beverly just to be a jerk. :-)

I'm sure people will want my autograph seeing as how I had the famous MELANIE sing at my wedding.
I've got plenty of pens handy when ever you're all ready.......

They really need to can this show. I mean, how much of Simon can anyone take!? Doesn't his antics and just the whole synopsis of the show get predictable after seven years!? Hmmm...I guess because I have never been a fan of the show I am just a tad bit too hard on it.

Mel just made it cool for me and my Goons to get excited about Idol. You should have heard us erupt when chickie got her ticket to Hollywood. It was like Kobe hittin the game winner in the play offs. Way to go Madam Mel, I gotta switch to unlimited text now
