Ladies...

Please help!!!!

What exactly do you know about PMS? I've always kind of thought it was something in our heads that we try to give a scientific name to because we are just extra emotional or moody. Lord knows I'm moody. But if I tried to document it to show real proof that there should be an excuse given for my behavior, I would end up with red dots all over the calendar—definitely not just at certain times of the month. So I've dismissed the notion that this is an ailment of mine and just accepted the fact that I am temperamental.

But today I was given hope that maybe, just maybe, I am not just grumpy and irritable for no reason. For the last couple of days I have been in rare form even for me and I just cannot pinpoint why the littlest things are driving me crazy!!! My friend told me that sometimes this 3-letter demon becomes much more pronounced in some people around a certain age. My age. I don’t know if there is any truth to it but I like it a whole lot better than thinking I’m just a B*tch. Has anyone else heard of this phenomenon?

I haven't heard about a certain age, either. But I can tell you from my experience that I used to think the whole "PMS" thing was crap. I'm an emotional person no matter what. Always have been. BUT, I can say that in the past, probably, 6 or 7 years I've noticed that I definitely get more emotional about a week before. I wouldn't necessarily call it "bitch" cuz sometimes it's that and sometimes the slightest things will hurt my feelings and even make me cry. And I even have the conversation with myself as to why in the heck something so little has affected me in such a way. Then (about) a week later - bam. So I've learned to try to be more aware of it and not put it on other people (well, at least not the people I care about - heh). All of this does, however, make me nervous when it comes time to being pregnant. I've heard it's PMS times ten. eek!!!! (poor Holliday - but hey, he's been warned LOL)

I hadn't heard that, however I agree that our hormones do affect the way we treat people and react to certain things... Call it PMS or whatever you want, but it's real. I never really got what I considered PMS during my cycles. I mean, I would be a little irritable because I wasn't feeling well due to cramps, headaches, etc., but everyone is a little cranky when they're physically ill and have to deal w/ incompetence, stupid boyfriends, back to back 300 runs, etc. But when I was pregnant- sh*******t that's when I really had that crazy hormone thing! So I HAVE TO believe in PMS and the fact the increased hormone levels affect mood & emotion, cause if that wasn't the case... I would need some serious help.

And Brit, enjoy it while you can!!! I went 16 glorious months without mine and it just started it back in December (thumbs down). I'm so jealous >:|

I noticed that I was extremely moody and irritable a few years ago. I'd get mad at my mom just cause she was calling me. Or curse someone (that I knew) out because they said "hello". It was BAD. I had never been like that before. I started doing research and self-diagnosed myself with PMDD. I went to the gyno to tell him so I can get some miracle cure. He gave me Xanax. I filled the Rx then flushed it all down the toilet.

I will say, now I am pretty much healed...lol. I noticed a huge difference once I became a vegetarian. I know this may not be the case for you, but it was for me. Even after I went back to eating meat, I noticed that my mood swings slowly started coming back.

I think PMS or PMDD have several triggers that vary in people. I hope you find your resolution soon. The mood swings sucks and everyone around you suffers...lol.

If it takes giving up meat to be a pleasant person, I'm afraid you will need to just start calling me the Wicked Witch of the West. Xanax though huh...that's pretty major!

LOL @ Wicked Witch of the West.

Xanax was major, that's why I flushed it down the toilet. All I told the man was that I had the "blues" and was cursting everybody out. That was all he could offer.

Don't worry about giving up meat. I'm sure it will pass with time though.
